Crazy Kalyanam: Akhil Uddemari Makes Interesting Comments About Anupama

Young actor Akhil Uddemari, who gained recognition with Raju Weds Rambai, is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Crazy Kalyanam. In a recent interview, Akhil shared interesting details about his character, his experience working with Anupama Parameswaran and Tharun Bhascker, and why he believes the film will connect with audiences across regions. He also described Dr. Naresh Vijay Krishna as the real hero of the film, saying his character has an edge over the others.

Titled Crazy Kalyanam, the film features ‘Navarasaraya’ Dr. Naresh Vijay Krishna, Anupama Parameswaran, Tharun Bhascker and Akhil Uddemari in lead roles. Directed by Badrappa Gajula, the film is produced by Boosam Jagan Mohan Reddy under the Arrow Cinemas banner as Production No. 2. The makers are planning a worldwide theatrical release on October 16 as a Dasara festive offering.

How Akhil Uddemari Came on Board

Speaking about how he joined the project, Akhil revealed that he had previously worked with producer Jagan Mohan Reddy on Vindhu Bhojanam and remained in touch with the production house. During the scripting process of Crazy Kalyanam, the team considered him for the role of Uday.

“The director and producer asked me whether I would play Uday, and I immediately agreed. At that time, the casting had not been finalised. Later, when Dr. Naresh garu, Anupama, Tharun Bhascker and others joined the film, they sent me the complete script. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it,” Akhil said.

He added that he particularly liked the characters played by Naresh and Tharun Bhascker. He found Tharun’s character, Balaraju, especially hilarious and wanted to make Uday stand out alongside the other characters. Akhil said he made every effort to understand Uday’s personality and portray him convincingly.

Akhil on Working with Anupama Parameswaran

Akhil revealed that he was initially nervous about sharing screen space with Anupama Parameswaran. However, her support helped him overcome his hesitation within a few hours.

“Initially, I was nervous about acting with Anupama, but with the support she gave me, I felt comfortable within half a day. Before every scene, we discussed how we should perform it. We approached the scenes as the characters rather than as actors,” he explained.

The actor also shared an emotional connection to working with Anupama. She previously played the female lead in Rowdy Boys, in which Akhil had a small role. After watching that film, his mother had expressed her wish to see him act alongside Anupama once he became a hero.

“I am happy that I am now acting with Anupama in this film, fulfilling my mother’s wish,” Akhil said. He also expressed gratitude to the director and producer for giving him the opportunity even before the release of Raju Weds Rambai.

Uday Is a Relatable Boy-Next-Door Character

Speaking about his role, Akhil said Uday is a young man who has completed his degree and dreams of achieving a good position in life. He believes audiences will easily relate to the character because of its familiar aspirations and personality.

Just as he prepared extensively for his role as Raju in Raju Weds Rambai, Akhil said he put the same effort into understanding Uday. He added that his character has its share of fun moments and romantic scenes.

The actor also made it clear that he does not judge a role by its screen time. According to him, being part of a good story and delivering a convincing performance matter more than the length of a character or commercial considerations.

‘Crazy Kalyanam Is a Story Close to Our Lives’

Akhil described Crazy Kalyanam as a story rooted in village life and familiar family situations. Although the film is set against a Telangana backdrop and features the region’s dialect, he believes its emotional core will appeal to audiences across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and other regions.

“A good film can take actors like me forward more than market considerations and commercial aspects. The dialect and region cannot become obstacles to the success of a film with good content,” he said, citing Pelli Choopulu as an example of a film that received appreciation in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Akhil also highlighted the song Ala Sendravanka, featuring him and Anupama. He considers it a privilege to be part of a song for which renowned poet Gorati Venkanna penned the lyrics.

‘If Their Films Are Biryani, Our Film Is Like a Sweet’

With several films arriving during the festive season, Akhil said the team is not treating any big-star release as direct competition. Instead, he believes multiple films can find an audience during a festival.

“If their films are biryani, our film is like a sweet. Any number of films can receive audiences’ love during a festival,” he remarked, expressing confidence that families will enjoy watching Crazy Kalyanam in theatres.

He concluded by sharing a lesson from his journey as an actor: believing in a goal and working hard are essential to achieving success. Akhil also revealed that his next film is titled Shanarathi, which he expects to be a rooted, core-cult film.

With a familiar storyline, an ensemble cast and a festive release, Crazy Kalyanam is gearing up to entertain audiences in theatres worldwide on October 16.
