COVID-19: India continues to show considerable improvement

The government of India has released official figures of COVID-19 as of December 13. India continues to show considerable improvement, with daily fatalities continuing to be less than 500 for seven days in a row. The Health Ministry also said that daily recoveries have outnumbered daily new cases for the last 15 days in a row.
Here are the key figures:
94.93% of the infected people have been either cured or discharged or migrated. This number stands at 93,57,464.
Only 3.62% are active cases. In numerical terms, it is just 3,56,546.
Only 1.45% is the death rate. So far, 1,43,019 have died.
Testing numbers as per ICMR data:
Cumulative tests have gone up to 15,37,11,833. So, the number of tests has crossed the 15 crore mark already. On Saturday, more than 10 lakh tests were conducted across the country.
ICMR has also initiated mobile RT-PCR testing labs. The number of labs will be scaled up in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, reports say that arrangements have been put in place by different States to initiate the vaccination drive in mid-January. Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Madhya Pradesh have announced free vaccines for all. Bihar and a few other States, too, are likely to follow.
