The official COVID 19 data update today shows 4985 new cases in Tamil Nadu taking up the total number of cases to 1,75,678. The death toll now stands at 2551 after 70 persons lost their lives in the past twenty-four hours.

Chennai has seen a marginal rise in cases recording 1298 new cases when compared to the past week. There are now 87235 patients in the capital city so far. Tiruvallur reported the next highest with 454 cases with Chengalput and Kancheepuram both having 300 plus cases and Tuticorin 200.

On the positive side the single day highest of 50,800 persons were tested today taking up the total number to 19,84,579 maintaining the number one record in India. 3861 patients were discharged taking up the tally of recoveries to 1,21,776
