Meaningful films will be the motto: Bala

After leaving his stamp of authority in direction, Bala turns his attention to film production. His home venture will launch its debut film Mayavi with Surya and Jyothika in the lead roles. It will be directed by his associate Singapuli with Rathnavel as the cameraman and Devi Sri Prasad handling the music. The humorous venture is due to hit the floors next month and slated for a February release. Films like Sethu, Nandha and Pithamagan showcased Bala’s talent.

Branching out to a new area is to unearth fresh talents and give opportunities for the talented ones, said Bala.

Bala’s production venture has the backing of noted producer Kalaipuli Thanu, who has dished out interesting movies like Khaakha Khaakha, Aalavandhan, Kandukondein Kandukondein.

Asked on evincing interest in an untried area, Bala felt good movies had been always welcomed. ‘That spurred me on to venture into production. With the support of an experienced hand like Thanu, meaningful films will be the motto of my production house. I am confident of releasing the film on schedule.’

Bala opened out to say that ideally he would have liked to handle his baby – of directing his own venture. ‘But then, there is that urge in me to introduce new talents. By producing, there will be enhanced opportunities to explore and tap talent material. Singapuli showed enough promise in the film Red. It is only fair that  he gets another opportunity.’

The heartening news is that Bala will be producing at least two films a year. His next directorial venture is for A M Rathnam’s Sri Surya Movies.  ‘Discussions are on and the launch date is not far off,’ said Bala.

Sources in the industry said that Ajith is likely to play the lead. On the balance factor – producing and directing – Bala said it boiled down to some planning. ‘Had already chalked out my schedules. With proper planning, meeting the demand is an easy task. The three directorial ventures have taught me a lot. It is a question of knowing the priorities and getting on with the act.’

Directors like Parthiban, Cheran, Ameer and Praveen Kanth could do the smooth transition turning into actors. Recently, director Charan began his own production house. Bala is a welcome addition.

Better things are indeed ahead of
