Among many college-goers in Chennai, there is a culture. They unofficially celebrate Bus Day on the first day of the academic year by travelling in large groups in city buses, sitting on the top of the bus and doing masthi. This continues despite a court order banning Bus Day years ago.

On Monday, when the students of a college were travelling on the top of a bus, about 20 of them fell down when the driver applied brakes all of a sudden. Five of them have been severely injured by the mishap.

Visuals of students as young as 17 boisterously and recklessly creating ruckus through bus routes, are doing the rounds on the Internet.

The students of Pachaiyappa’s College and Ambedkar Arts and Science College were reportedly warned by police for creating a ruckus.
