Severe punishment to movie pirates approved by union cabinet

The Union cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has delivered the sweetest news to the Indian film industry in general and Kollywood in particular as the amendment to the Cinematograph Act 1952 has been approved on Wednesday.  According to Union Law MInister Ravi Shankar Prasad “If one, without authorisation, undertakes digital duplication of various creative works or by any other means of digital technology, one can be made to suffer three-year jail punishment and Rs 10 lakh fine.”.

Focussing on Kollywood the industry has been reeling under the atrocities committed by pirate sites such as Tamil Rockers and others who openly challenge and upload pirated versions of new movies on the release date.  The new law will sure send the jitters to them as the government has finally recognized the biggest threat to the cinema industry and would surely boost the colections of movies at the theaters and saving many a producer.
