A food delivery boy from Chennai, employed with Swiggy, allegedly beat up a customer along with four other men, including two of his colleagues, as the customer had complained about a delay in the delivery.
The accused has been identified as Rajesh Kanna (22), who joined Swiggy about a month ago. He was assigned to deliver food to Balaji (42) but reached his place late as he was unwell, and hence took his father, Dhanasekaran (52), along with him. "Since the food delivery was delayed, Balaji raised a complaint with the Swiggy customer care. After about an hour, the delivery executive delivered the food. He got into a fight with Balaji due to the delay in delivery," a police officer reportedly said. The boy's father claimed that the exact location of delivery was not mentioned by the customer, which caused the delay. Rajesh then called up two of his colleagues and another friend from the locality, all of whom allegedly beat up Balaji.
Balaji filed a complaint with the Ashok Nagar police station following the incident. The delivery boys and the other two men were reportedly let off later with a warning. Swiggy, regarding the issue, responded, "We are aware of this unfortunate incident in Chennai and have been in constant touch with all parties involved. While this issue has been closed by the investigating authorities with a warning given to both parties, we will continue to extend our full support for any further investigations."
