The Chennai railway police arrested four men at the Central railway station after they were caught trying to smuggle 4.5 kilograms of gold biscuits to Kerala.
The gold was found tied up to the waists of the accused, whose suspicious posture alerted the police. The officials seized the gold when they found that the men did not carry the appropriate documents. On being interrogated, the Kerala-origin men revealed that they had purchased the gold biscuits from a jewellery store in Chennai, which they were planning to turn into jewellery and sell in their native state.
The railway police have handed over the seized gold biscuits to district collector Shanmugasundaram.
