Centre advises States to regulate nurses’ salaries across the country

The BJP-led Centre has sent an advisory to all State Governments and Union Territory administrations to consider regulating the pay/salaries of nurses working at or employed in private hospitals/clinics across the country.

A petition submitted to the Centre by the All India Nurses’ Confederation had earlier requested the Centre to regulate and revise the pay and allowances/sararies of nurses working in various private hospitals/clinics in the country as per recommendations of the VII Pay Commission.

Speaking on the floor of the Lok Sabha in Parliament yesterday, Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare J.P. Nadda said that the Centre has sent an appropriate advisory to all State Governments/UT administrations to take action as deemed fit to ensure that nurses working in private clinics/hospitals are paid good salaries.

“We have asked the States/UTs to no more delay the process of regulating the working or functioning of private medical institutions. We have also said that if the need arose, the Centre won’t hesitate to enact a separate Act in this regard. We have accepted a few demands put forward by the Nurses’ Federation on minimum wages/salaries to be paid,” the Minister told the Members.
