In the Banihal town of Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, a car exploded near a CRPF convoy today, thereby damaging one of the CRPF vehicles that was moving as part of the convoy. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
The explosion apparently happened earlier today at around 10.30 am inside a Hyundai Santro model, completely destroying the vehicle. “The explosion appears to have been caused by a gas cylinder inside the car but this is based on preliminary examination of the car's wreckage,” a police officer said. “The car caught fire and slight damage was caused to the rear of one of the CRPF vehicles. No injuries were caused to CRPF personnel. The incident is being investigated,” the CRPF stated. The explosion is suspected to have happened due to the car carrying a mix of chemicals, explosives, and LPG cylinders.
Police have reported that the only occupant of the vehicle has escaped. The incident has brought memories of the Pulwama attack that claimed the lives of over 40 CRPF soldiers due to a similar explosion that happened on February 14.
