An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 on the Richter Scale struck Southern California on Friday. Centered in the Mojave Desert, the quake hit at about 8:20 pm causing some destruction in the areas around. Photos showed products having fallen off the shelves in supermarkets and the water in swimming pools was seen to violently shake. Disneyland rides were stopped and play at an NBA summer league basketball game was halted.
In Los Angeles, when news anchors Juan Fernandez and Sara Donchey at the local CBS station were live on TV, they felt the tremors. Donchey can be heard saying: “We’re experiencing very strong shaking. I think we need to get under the desk” as she gets off her chair to crouch under the desk. One can only imagine how scary it must have been for them. The earthquake came after a 6.4 magnitude one that occurred on July 4th in Southern California. The damage to public infrastructure is being assessed by officials.
