British Nurse Guilty of Shocking Neonatal Unit Crimes

A British nurse, Lucy Letby, has been found guilty of murdering seven newborn babies and attempting to kill another six at a hospital in northwest England where she worked. The 33-year-old nurse was convicted of killing five baby boys and two baby girls at the Countess of Chester hospital between 2015 and 2016. This verdict marks Letby as one of Britain’s most prolific serial child killers in modern history.

Letby injected some infants with insulin, injected air, or force-fed milk, leading to their deaths. Handwritten notes found at her home revealed her intention, with statements like “I killed them on purpose because I’m not good enough to care for them” and “I am a horrible evil person.”

The youngest victim was just one day old. Doctors became aware of Letby’s actions when they observed a troubling increase in unexplained deaths and collapses within the neonatal unit. An investigation revealed Letby’s involvement in the care of the babies and her role in the incidents.

Letby is set to be sentenced on Monday and could potentially face a full life sentence. The government has initiated an independent inquiry into the matter, focusing on hospital management’s response to concerns raised by clinicians. Detectives are also conducting further investigations into Letby’s work history to determine if there are more victims.

The case has left the hospital staff devastated, and families of victims have expressed their heartbreak. Letby’s conviction highlights the severity of her actions and the tragic loss of innocent lives under her care.
