The other day, IT Minister KT Rama Rao spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos about the need to build a strong ecosystem to develop the Pharm City in Hyderabad. He criticized the Centre, alleging that its policies are nothing but a race to the bottom because they think only in terms of amenities like cheap land and electricity. The TRS leader suggested that the Modi government is not doing enough to support Telangana in creating a strong Life Sciences ecosystem.
Kishore Poreddy of the BJP, as a counter, wrote that every industrialist, including those in the pharma industry, knows very well that cheap land, electricity, water, sewerage, transportation etc., impinge directly on their viability and growth. The BJP spokesperson also questioned how KTR can take credit for the establishment of the CCMB (Center for Cellular & Molecular Biology) and IICT (Indian Institute of Chemical Technology), both of which are the Centre’s projects.
Netizens are slamming KTR for speaking “nonsense with so much confidence”. They are saying that KTR needs to remember that a well-growing pharma industry pre-dates the TRS rule. Bharat Biotech and Dr. Reddy’s are just a couple of examples.
