Tech giant Wipro has given a clarification after there were numerous social media posts stating that Founder Azim Premji donated Rs 50,000 crore for corona relief.
The company has revealed that the charitable contribution was made in March 2019, when Premji had contributed 34 percent of his shares worth Rs 52,750 crore to an endowment under Azim Premji Foundation.
This donation made in mid-March 2019, made him one of the biggest philanthropists and when the contribution was made, the total value of the endowment corpus was at 1.45 lakh crore. The company was now made to issue a clarification as many started spreading fake news that Azim Premji donated to help during coronavirus outbreak.
