Are people taking horror-comedies too seriously?

'Raju Gari Gadhi-2' has defied all humble expectations.  It may well be on its way to becoming a big hit.  So much so, Nagarjuna was heard at Sunday's success meet as saying that it may exceed the BO figures of 'Soggade Chinni Nayana' in terms of gross! 

The first day earning recorded by 'Oopiri' (Nag's emotional drama also produced by Prasad V Potluri) in Nizam territory were pipped rather easily by 'RGG-2'.  Now, 'Oopiri' also had Karthi.  It was directed by Vamshi Paidipally, a director whose stardom far outweighs that of Ohmkar.  

Despite the fact that 'RGG-2' has got oh-so-many familiar tropes (comedians scared by a ghost, a mentalist who is inspired by Chandramukhi's Rajinikanth, etc), it didn't deter the audience from betting big on the movie.  

Horror-comedies are a minimum guarantee genre now.  Rope in a Vennela Kishore (as 'Anando Brahma' and 'RGG-2' have done), the sky is the limit.  The audience may actually be taking the genre too seriously.  Some genres do remarkably well as long as they are not past their sell-by date.  It seems even top producers might be tempted to invest in this genre rather than burn their fingers by doing actioners and all!
