Happy birthday Meena!

Actress Meena has become a household name through her endearing performances in various roles in multiple language films like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and several Hindi movies as well. It is through sheer hard work and dedication that Meena had grown from a bubbly child artist to the present name that she hold in the industry.

Meena marked her entry into the film industry at a very young age. After being spotted at a birthday party by Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan, the chubby Meena was cast alongside the legend in her debut film ‘Nenjangal’ in 1982. Meena went on to earn a name for herself as a performing child artiste after her role in ‘Anbulla Rajinikanth’ where she portrays the role of a terminally ill child who takes the Superstar to be her best friend. The role made the young and bubbly Meena to be loved by the Tamil speaking audiences, after which she acted in over 40 films as a child artiste.

The actress who excelled in her roles as a child artiste then also extended her brilliant acting prowess as a female lead in her first film ‘Oru Pudhiya Kadhai’ which was directed by R.Bala Subbaiah. Subsequently, Meena went onto act in director Sibi Malayil’s ‘Sandhwanam’, which catapulted her career into other regional languages such as Malayalam and Kannada.

Meena also has the unique credit of starring with most contemporary legends such as Kamal Hassan, Rajnikanth, Chiranjeevi, Mammootty, Mohan Lal, Ajith Kumar, Nagarjuna, Jayaram, Suresh Gopi and Raviteja.

Some of the notable films in which Meena’s filmography would be ‘Anbulla Rajnikath’, ‘Yejaman’, ‘Naattamai’, ‘Rhythm’ and ‘Muthu’ which became a hit in Japan. The actress also gave her best performance in Jeethu Joseph’s ‘Drishyam’ which became a high-grosser and was remade into other regional languages as well. 

Another interesting fact is that, Meena’s daughter Nainika following her star mother’s footsteps has played the cute daughter of Thalpathy Vijay in ‘Theri’ which was directed by Atlee.

Meena is also a trained Bharatanatyam dancer, who in addition to acting has established herself as a model, singer and TV show judge.
