Actress Gouri Kishan, who stars in the recently released film Others, has issued a powerful statement in response to a controversial question about her body weight raised during a press meet. She has firmly condemned body shaming, sparking widespread support from the film industry and media.

“Criticism is part of the job. But comments or questions that directly or indirectly target someone’s body or appearance are wrong in any context,” she stated.

The controversy erupted when a YouTuber, during the film’s promotional press conference, asked the male lead about Gouri’s weight. She immediately shot back: “This is pure body shaming. How can you even ask that?”

In her detailed official statement, Gouri elaborated:

“They should have asked about the film I acted in. Would they ask the same aggressive question to a male actor? This is not just about me — it’s important for everyone who has faced similar experiences.”

Several industry bodies, including the Chennai Press Club, AMMA (Malayalam Film Actors’ Association), and the South Indian Actors’ Association, have extended full support to Gouri.

“We have the right to voice our discomfort. We have the right to question when something is wrong,” she concluded.
