Earlier this month, Tamil actress VJ Chitra was found dead in a hotel room near Chennai. The news is that her husband Hemnath was arrested last midnight after five straight days of inquiry by the police, who grilled him on his alleged inconsistent statements. The police, after a long line of questioning Chitra's parents, Hemnath's parents, actresses and a few friends associated with her have more or less concluded that it was Hemanth who pushed Chitra to the limits.
It has come to light that Hemnath was not happy with Chitra acting in intimate scenes in the serials and many a time, including on the day of her death, had gone to the sets of a TV soap and fought with her while in a drunken state. At the same time, Chitra's mother, hearing about Hemnath's character, was also forcing her to get separated from him.
Effect of pandemic
Hemnath has revealed in the police investigation that Chitra had started to build a new house in Thiruvanmiyur and had also bought a luxury Audi car earlier this year. She was apparently shocked when the coronavirus pandemic forced a lockdown for several months and the pressure of repaying loans had affected her.
Differences over planned wedding
The Chithra-Hemnath engagement was conducted with close family members on both sides in attendance sometime in August. The actress dreamed of a grand wedding (they earlier had only registration marriage) where film and television industry celebrities would be in attendance. She expected Hemnath to share the burden of the expenditure.
It is said that the final blow to Chitra came when Hemnath forced her to quit acting since he did not like her in doing intimate scenes.
