Minnale was one of the biggest blockbusters of 2001, and the movie which marked the arrival of one of the classy directors of Tamil cinema, Gautam Vasudev Menon, besides also firmly establishing Madhavan as a chocolate hero and the heartthrob of Tamil cinema, as a perfect followup for Alaipayuthey.

The movie also starring Abbas and Reema Sen, marked the debut of music director Harris Jayaraj as well, and the music director - director duo later went on to churn numerous hit albums together. Yesterday marked the 18th anniversary of Minnale's release, and a fan had tweeted that it's been 18 years and the songs still stay fresh, and demanded the maker to do Minnale 2.

There was a surprise response to the fan tweet, not from Gautham Menon, but from Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan, who shared his memories of the movie, as he tweeted that he went to a theater in Ooty and saw the movie as he was shooting during the release of Minnale, and added that he still listens to the songs. Harris Jayaraj responded to Abhishek, saying that it was so sweet of him.
