24-year-old TN man arrested for rape and murder of 70-year-old woman

A 24-year-old from the Villupuram district has been arrested after he was found guilty of raping and murdering a 70-year-old woman from Alankuppam.

The deceased woman’s brother-in-law was the first person to find out about the incident. The complainant, who lived in the same street as the victim, on finding the door of her residence wide open late at night stepped in the house to check on her when he found the dead body of the old woman who was stripped naked. As soon as he reported the incident to the police, the officials launched a search. They reportedly found the accused in Arasur, who later confessed to the crime. He raped and strangled her to death before he took off with her jewels, according to the police.

The police have taken the 24-year-old accused into custody while the investigation of the matter is still underway.
