Bray Wyatt, whose real name is Windham Rotunda and who once held the WWE championship, has died at 36. The news was confirmed by Chief Content Officer Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque on X (formerly Twitter). Wyatt had not appeared on WWE television since February due to a serious illness. He said that he would send condolences to Wyatt’s family and asked for privacy in return.
Wyatt’s journey began with the WWE developmental program way back in 2009. In 2010, he debuted on the main roster as ‘Husky Harris’ of The Nexus. By introducing The Wyatt Family and then ‘The Fiend’, another gimmick character, in 2014, Wyatt achieved a two-time WWE championship with notable contests against Randy Orton, John Cena, and André the Giant at WrestleMania.
Wyatt’s unique presence attracted fan favour. His metamorphosis into ‘The Fiend’, a horror-masked character, intrigued and divided fans. He initiated a lighter segment, Firefly Funhouse.
After a break, Wyatt was back in 2022 and delivered an emotional address to the crowd. He squared off face-to-face with ‘Uncle Howdy’ and Bobby Lashley but vanished on a dime. Illness rumours and booking problems kept him out.
Rotunda grew up in what is considered a wrestling family, with his grandfather, father, and uncles also involved. Survived by his wife, Jojo Offerman, plus their two children and two more from her first marriage, Wyatt leaves behind a legacy in the world of wrestling.
