All sorts of bizarre claims have been heard in Covid-19 times. From wonder cures to miracle drugs, we have seen them all.
It’s now the turn of Indonesia to be in the news over one such absurd claim. The agriculture minister of the country recently said that a necklace made from eucalyptus will keep Covid-19 at bay! “Wear it and you can prevent transmission of Covid-19,” he has been quoted as saying.
The controversial Minister’s name is Syahrul Yasin Limpo. Touting a necklace made from eucalyptus as a wonder cure, he asked his countrymen to wear it for 30 minutes to stave off the virus.
After much uproar from experts and scientists, the government retracted the statements and stopped advertising the herbal product as a cure for coronavirus.
Commenting on the development, physicist Christopher Lee said, “Every country seems to have their share of “interesting” personalities in politics. Unfortunately, some of them do get into power, then the genre changes from comedy to drama & even horror.” So true!
