The Government of India has reportedly banned the well-known file-sharing site WeTransfer.com. As per a report published by Mumbai Mirror, the Department of Telecommunications said that the ban is in view of “public interest and national security.”
The file-transfer site has been quite a popular one, thanks to its user-friendly features. Lakhs have used it over the years, given that a user can upload files up to 2GB in size in order to share it with others. It’s a free app.
The move is likely to generate some criticism. “We Transfer is just a medium. How can it be banned? For the looks of it, there is no breach of privacy. Also, the app can’t be pulled down just because some users abuse it,” a Twitter user commented.
An official word on the ban is awaited.
