Hundreds of migrant labourers who were stuck in Mumbai without work and money, had a sigh of relief as they recently boarded a Sharmik special train to return to their homes in Uttar Pradesh, but they had a huge shock the next day.
When the migrants woke up the next morning to go home they found that they were not in the actual destination of Gorakhpur, but were stationed 750km away in Odisha. In an unexpected goofup, the special train which started from Vasai station in Maharashtra took a different route overnight and ended up in Rourkela.
When the angry migrants asked about this uninformed decision, the officials present there said that the train’s driver lost his way due to some mix-up. Later the Railways said that the driver losing his way, followed by the change of destination was by design, as several Shramik trains are running on diverted routes to avoid congestion. However, railways has been questioned on why the migrant workers were not informed of this and on why they are not informed on when the train will leave from Rourkela to Gorakpur.
