The discovery of their missing cat in an Amazon warehouse in California astounded a couple from Utah.
Carrie Clark told NBC affiliate KSL that her indoor feline Galena went missing on April 10. Following weeks of searching the town and receiving assistance from friends and family, the couple received news that a Californian vet had scanned her microchip.
The vet informed Clark that Galena miraculously survived six days without food or water after finding her in an Amazon return box.
"I first didn't believe her and thought it was a prank," Clark said. When she realized that Galena must have jumped into the giant box of steel-toed work boots that they had shipped out a few days earlier, it began to set in.
Clark thanked an Amazon warehouse worker named Brandy, who saved Galena from the facility. Brandy, who was doing a side job of saving cats, explained how Galena made it. Clark said, "The box Galena was in split open on one seam, giving her air to breathe."
Clark wrote of the heartwarming reunion made possible via a flight to California and of the time when Galena recognized her voice: "It was an amazing reunion! Galena instantly stopped shaking and relaxed in my arms." Despite some weight loss and dehydration, Galena was unharmed, and Clark takes the opportunity to emphasize the value of pet microchipping and the vigilance of Amazon packages.
