Actor Urvashi Rautela has addressed the intense criticism she received after her recent remarks about a temple in Uttarakhand. In a new statement released by her team on Saturday, Urvashi clarified that her words had been misunderstood and misrepresented.
The statement emphasized that Urvashi never claimed the temple was in her honor personally. Instead, she referred to the “Urvashi temple” that already exists near Badrinath, which, according to mythology, is linked to the celestial apsara Urvashi, not the actress.
“Urvashi Rautela said that there is a temple in my name in Uttarakhand, not Urvashi Rautela’s temple,” the statement clarified, pointing out how people reacted without fully understanding the context.
“It is essential that before making baseless allegations or derogatory comments against any individual, the facts are thoroughly verified,” her team stated.
This clarification follows significant backlash from social media and religious figures, who had criticized her for allegedly disrespecting a sacred place. Local priests in the region expressed outrage, saying her remarks were misleading and disrespectful to their faith, and demanded that the government take action.
