In a very strange incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, a gang of monkeys on Friday reportedly snatched three Covid-19 test samples from a lab technician on the premises of Meerut Medical College. They couldn’t be caught much as some men tried their best.
What followed next has sparked fears of a spread of infection. “One of the monkeys of the troop was spotted atop a tree, chewing the sample collection kits. Parts of some kits were spotted strewn on the ground under the tree,” a Times Now report says.
If even one of the persons whose samples were collected is a coronavirus positive patient, chances of the monkey(s) contracting the infection are definitely there. “There exists a risk of transmission of COVID-19 infection to monkeys from humans,” the report adds.
The doctors at the college have collected samples afresh from the three individuals.
