It has been 33 years since Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan delivered the cult classic, ‘Guna’ (1991). The psychological romantic film is a cinematic brilliance of Kamal, director Santhana Bharathi and Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja. The timeless masterpiece is trending all over again due to the recent Malayalam film, ‘Manjummel Boys’.
We already informed you that ‘Manjummel Boys’ is a survival thriller which was released last month. It is enjoying a phenomenal run at the Tamil Nadu box office currently, surpassing the Tamil releases. The story revolves around a group of boys from Kerala visiting the ‘Guna Caves’ in Kodaikanal where one of them falls into a deep pit.
Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan and director Santhana Bharathi met the cast and crew of ‘Manjummel Boys’ a few days ago. Photos from their meeting went viral on social media. Meanwhile, Raaj Kamal Films presented an elaborate video of the ‘Gunaa’ actor’s interaction with the ‘Manjummel Boys’ team. They discussed many exciting facts in the 8-minute video.
In the clip, Kamal Haasan talked about the Gunaa Caves aka Devil’s Kitchen in detail. The pit in the cave is said to be more than 900 feet deep. There is a scene in ‘Manjummel Boys’ in which a character picks a monkey skull from the cave. Kamal said that small monkeys fall into the cave and die there as they can’t get back up.
The legendary actor revealed that the three monkey skulls he used in a scene in ‘Hey Ram’ were from the Guna Cave. He called the evergreen ‘Kanmani Anbodu’ song a love letter between Ilaiyaraaja and Kamal Haasan. Further, Kamal and Santhana Bharathi added that they created a path to the ‘Devil’s Kitchen’ cave to shoot ‘Gunaa’ and it became the ‘Gunaa Caves’.
