The Cyberabad Traffic Police have tightened the noose around reckless drivers, especially drunk drivers. In an attempt to curb the incidence of road accidents in Hyderabad, the Cyberabad Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar has said that road traffic offences will now be dealt with strongly.
Reckless drivers would be dealt with the harshest punishments under Section 304-II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC. This could involve imprisonment of up to 10 years. Sajjanar has said that those who consume precious lives are like terrorists.
As against 861 deaths last year, 663 persons have lost their lives due to road accidents in Cyberabad this year. As many as 28% of them are pedestrians. The fall in the numbers is entirely due to COVID-related restrictions.
Meanwhile, the traffic department has given citizens an opportunity to be the citizen police. Anybody can now report a traffic violation by capturing the violation and sending that image to Cyberabad E-challan WhatsApp: 9490617346 with date, time and location details.
