“There is a place in Europe where a lot of tourists visit since the front walls of the houses are painted beautifully. Maybe, one day there will be a village in India where toilets and paintings on it will be so good that tourists come to see it.” These are the words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday at a rally in Haryana’s Kurukshetra.
Toilet tourism? Seriously?! Well, Modi is not off the mark.
Recently in Bihar, several villages have painted the walls of toilets with Madhubani art. The walls of these toilets look aesthetic. These paintings were initiated under Swachh Sundar Shauchalay.
Modi seems to be referring to such works. Everything said, India has a long way to go before it makes its villages cleanest and attractive for tourists.
