Happy Birthday Samuthirakani

Today is the birthday of actor, director and the respected human Samuthirakani. 

Samuthirakani entered film industry to become an actor but he got the opportunity to become an Assistant director of Iyakkunar Sigaram K.Balachander. He assisted the legend in many films and television serials and also co-directed one of his serials. He made is debut in Tamil films as a director with 'Unnai Saranadaindhen'. However it was the blockbuster success of 'Nadodigal' that established Samuthirakani as a director to look out for. Since then he has directed meaningful and message oriented films such as 'Porali', 'Nimirndhu Nil' and 'Appa'.All these films have been remade in Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. 

Samuthirakani is also a National award winning actor. He played a scheming villain in the cult classic 'Subramaniapuram' the debut directorial of Sasikumar. In 'Eesan' which is Sasikumar's second film as a director, he played the lead role of an honest police officer. Eventually he emerged as a strong supporting actor and his stunning performance in 'Visaranai' fetched him the national award. His immense talent as an actor has made him popular across south India and he has acted in notable supporting roles in Malayalam films.

'Appa' is the first film in which Samuthirakani directed and also played the lead role. The film dealt with the inhuman ways of private boarding schools and emerged as a people favourite. The film is one of the biggest hits of the year 2016. 

This year Samuthirakani has acted in the lead role in 'Thondan' which he has also written and directed and 'Kolanji' which has been produced by director Naveen. Both the films have been scheduled to hit the screens in the month of May and they are expected to propel Samuthirakani's career as a director as well as actor, to greater heights.
