Theatres are safe unlike restaurants, pubs: Nani

Nani’s speech at the pre-release event of Satyadev’s ‘Thimmarusu’ (to be released on July 30) was interesting. In his speech, the actor pitched for a predictable policy regarding theatres at the time of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Watching movies in a theatre is our culture. I call it culture because we take our friends and family to theatres. When we are bored, we drink at the bar and then watch a movie in the theatre. During the pandemic, theatres have been the first ones to be closed down and the last ones to be re-opened,” the ‘Gang Leader’ actor opined.

Theatres, he said, are among the safest ones. “In restaurants and pubs, people don’t mask up and talk aloud. But in theatres, such a thing doesn’t happen. I am not saying this because my film ‘Tuck Jagadish’ is scheduled to be released soon. I have no self-interest. I am talking as a member of the audience. Theatres have a special place in our lives. They are our second home. If we take all precautions and follow Covid protocol, theaters are among the safest places. Cinemas take care of our mental health,” Nani said.

The ‘Jersey’ actor said that lakhs of people are dependent on theatres for their livelihoods. “So many lives are dependent on cinema halls,” Nani said, touching upon the curbs over ticket rates in Andhra Pradesh. “A lot of families are dependent on films.

In his speech, Nani said that he is biased towards actor Satyadev. “When I watched ‘UMUR’, I was thoroughly impressed. Without his performance, the film wouldn’t have clicked,” the ‘Shyam Singha Roy’ star added.
