Thalapathy Vijay's biggie 'Beast', directed by Nelson, was released last week in theatres opening to mixed and negative reviews from the audience. Despite the poor word of mouth, the action-comedy thriller is continuing to do well at the box office. Now, Vijay's father has stated that 'Beast' lacks good writing and it is going viral.
SA Chandrasekhar is a famous director in the 80s and 90s tamil cinema. He introduced Vijay to Kollywood with his directorial 'Naalaiya Theerpu'. The maker has directed several other films with Vijay. SAC, in a recent interview with an entertainment portal, shared his thoughts on his son Vijay's latest film 'Beast' produced by Sun Pictures.
SA Chandrasekhar said that he enjoyed 'Beast' till the 'Arabic Kuthu' song sequence but the film wasn't engaging after that point. He added that 'Beast' relies only on the star power of Vijay but falls short in writing and execution. The veteran filmmaker continued to say that new generation directors give one or two good films but when they get a chance to direct a big hero, they become lethargic and think that the actor's stardom will make the movie a successful one.
When he was asked whether the new age directors are struggling to find a balance between making a good film and making a star film, SAC answered that the filmmakers should do their movies in their own style but they can include some necessary entertainment elements in their works comfortably. He added that Vijay's speciality is songs and dance, so when a director can include comedy amid a hijack situation he could have had some songs too. He further said that 'Beast' will do well at the box office but it wasn't satisfying.
SAC concluded by saying that the magic lies in the screenplay and 'Beast' doesn't have a good screenplay. 'Beast' has music by Anirudh, cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa, editing by Nirmal and stunt choreography by Anbariv masters. The film, also starring Pooja Hegde, Aparna Das, Sathish, Selvaraghavan, Yogi Babu and Redin Kingsley, is now running in the theatres.
