A man from the Thyagasamudram village in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur has been arrested for hosting a “corona feast” in the district amid the nationwide lockdown over the coronavirus pandemic.
The accused, identified as 29-year-old Sivaguru, organized the feast which he called “Corona Virunthu” on Wednesday and invited a number of his friends to the event. He had uploaded a video of the same on Facebook, which eventually went viral and landed him in trouble. The video shows a group of boys sharing food served on a long banana leaf, sitting next to each other in proximity. Police traced the location of the accused as soon as the video reached them and arrested him along with several other organizers of the feast.
A case has reportedly been booked against them under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 3 of Epidemic Disease Act and Section 67 of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
