In a heart-wrenching incident, a 60-year-old man in Tamil Nadu's Madurai died by suicide after being thrown out of the house by his children who suspected he was infected with the virus when he showed symptoms.
The incident has been reported from the Palanganatham area of Madurai, where a 60-year-old man, who showed symptoms of the novel coronavirus, was abandoned by his children and ended up on the streets. While he was walking aimlessly on the roads, health officials happened to take him for a test and the results, unfortunately, turned out to be positive. He was then shifted to the coronavirus ward of a private college in Madurai, where he received treatment. Distressed and heartbroken over being abandoned by his children and the subsequent coronavirus diagnosis, he jumped off the roof of the building.
The 60-year-old man was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries earlier this morning. The incident has sparked outrage among people of the state. As on June 28, a total of 548k cases have been registered across India and 16475 people have died. Tamil Nadu has reported 82275 cases and 1079 deaths.
