Shanmugam, the newsreader and program anchor who used to read the news in his inimitable clear tone with perfect diction on Sun TV, passed away due to ill health. He was 52 years old.
Hailing from Madurai, Shanmugham started his career as a newspaper reporter and joined Sun TV as a newsreader. It is noteworthy that right from the 90s, his voice is one of the most recognizable among television personalities.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin issued a statement condoling the death of Shanmugam. In his obituary, he stated “I am deeply saddened to learn that journalist Shanmugam, who resonated in Tamil homes with his unique voice, has passed away due to ill health. In his media journey of more than a quarter of a century, it must be said that he became a grammarian in news reading with accurate pronunciation. His death is a shock to the media world. I express my deepest condolences to all media friends, his family, and relatives who are suffering from his loss”
