Sukumar shines bright as his assistants become prominent newbies

Two young filmmakers have proven to be resounding debutants in recent times. ‘Uppena’ director Buchi Babu Sana is the first of them. After his debut movie became a blockbuster, he teamed up with Global Star Ram Charan for a multi-lingual, pan-India outing. The second director is Srikanth Odela. For the unversed, he is the director of Nani’s career-biggest hit, ‘Dasara’.

What is common between Buchi Babu and Srikanth? They both have previously worked under the maverick filmmaker Sukumar. The former is more intimately connected with Sukumar’s filmography than the latter. 

Sukumar’s name is shining bright at a time when his former assistants are churning out noticeable and acclaimed films. Palnati Surya Pratap of ‘Kumar 21F’ and ’18 Pages’ has been constantly associated with Sukumar in different ways. He worked on films like ‘1: Nenokkadine’ and learned the ropes. Jakka Hari Prasad of ‘Playback’ fame had a sputtering start with ‘Darsakudu’ but he is slowly discovering his strengths.

Srikanth Reddy is going to debut with Panja Vaishnav Tej’s 4th film this year. In his maiden attempt, the debutant is handling a challenging genre. The untitled movie is an action drama. He is another Srikanth after the ‘Dasara’ director to test his luck at the box-office this year. Vemareddy, another Sukumar protege, is expected to attain fame in the coming years.
