Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman who struck down the Pakistani F-16 on February 27th, is using a special patch for his squadron in recognition of the achievement. The patch which reads ‘Falcon Slayers’ and ‘AMRAAM Dodgers’ signifies the evasion by the MiG-21 Bison Squadron of the AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles fired by the Pakistani F-16.
Patches are badges made of cloth that show the role, the type of aircraft flown, and an important assignment of the squadron. The patch depicts the F-16 in red in the background and the MiG-21 Bison in front. Abhinandan recently joined the Suratgarh Air Force Station in Rajasthan.
