In Tamil cinema, he had a unique fan following of his own. There are numerous films that were successful solely because of his dialogues. Comedy came naturally to him in abundance. Movies like Michael Madana Kama Rajan, Avvai Shanmugi, and Panchathantiram were blockbusters that were entirely carried by his dialogues.

Actor Sivaji had a deep interest in drama. ‘The entire credit for my success goes to Kamal Haasan,’ said dialogue writer and actor Crazy Mohan. Let’s take a look at what else he shared…

“Sujatha’s stories started being adapted into films. Gayathri and Ninaithale Inikkum are examples. Sujatha was very happy about it. Story, drama, and then cinema — that’s the path. If you follow this route, you won’t face failure.

Thangapadakkam was first staged as a play and then adapted into a film. Sivaji acted in the play as well, and it was a huge success. Everyone must have an interest in drama.

Sivakarthikeyan is also interested in drama. He has attended my plays. I would say that is the reason for his success.

The complete reason for my success is Kamal sir. I have worked with him on more than 20 films. He treats me like a child.

Kamal sir would often say that he’s half Sivaji and half Nagesh. Kamal sir has an innate sense of appreciation. That’s why I was able to write such dialogues.

‘Humor is a serious business.’ First, you must enjoy your comedy; only then can you make the audience enjoy it.

In Apoorva Sagodharargal, even the Thirukkural was included, and when Kamal sir saw the depth in what I wrote, he hugged me.

Kamal sir would say that Urvashi is a powerhouse in acting. In Magalir Mattum, the actresses would refine the dialogues I gave them.”
