Actor Siddharth often makes headlines and this time he has landed himself in trouble after making an inappropriate comment on ace Badminton player Saina Nehwal's latest tweet that was made in reference to PM Narendra Modi's convoy's security breach in Punjab's Ferozepur on January 5.
Some protesters blocked a route and forced Modi's convoy to spend about 15-20 minutes on a flyover. This resulted in a huge row on social media. Reacting to that, Saina wrote, "No Nation can claim itself to be safe if the security of its own PM gets compromised. I condemn, in the strongest words possible, the cowardly attack on PM Modi by anarchists (sic)".Actor Siddharth quoted Saina Nehwal's tweet with the comment, "Subtle cock champion of the world... Thank God we have protectors of India. Shame on you #Rihanna (sic)." Following the backlash, Siddharth wrote that his tweet was not meant to disrespect anyone and the reference that he made was from 'Cock and Bull' idiom. He wrote, "COCK & BULL" That's the reference. Reading otherwise is unfair and leading! Nothing disrespectful was intended, said or insinuated. Period."
Meanwhile, many on Twitter criticised Siddharth for his tweet. "This is really crass, Siddharth. You just contributed to what a lot of us women are fighting against," tweeted singer Chinmayi Sripaada. National Commission for Women Chairperson Rekha Sharma also condemned Siddharth for his actions. "This man needs a needs or two. Why this person's account still exists? Taking it up with concerned Police," tweeted Rekha Sharma.
