Shocking Decision: Kavitha dissolves Bharat Jagruthi committees

On Sunday, March 10, K Kavitha, the founder president of Bharat Jagruthi and BRS Member of Legislative Council (MLC), announced the dissolution of all committees at various levels within the organization, including foreign, national, state, district, mandal, and village committees.

Bharat Jagruthi, formerly known as Telangana Jagruthi, was founded by Kavitha in 2005 during the Telangana statehood movement. The organization transitioned to a national level under its new name after the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) rebranded as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), expanding its activities beyond Telangana.

In August 2022, Bharat Jagruthi formed committees at various levels in Telangana to support the organization’s activities. Recently, it launched a campaign advocating for women’s rights, focusing on the implementation of women’s reservation legislation. The reasons for the sudden dissolution of the committees were not provided in the organization’s brief press release. The decision came into effect immediately.

Critics have speculated that the move may be connected to the BRS’s recent loss in the Telangana assembly elections, which saw the Congress party come to power. However, Kavitha has not commented on the matter, and it is unclear whether new committees will be formed in the near future.

Inspired by the people’s movement for Telangana statehood and driven by a strong commitment to serve the community, Kavitha founded Telangana Jagruthi in August 2006. While the organization was officially registered in November 2007, its name, Jagruthi, meaning Awakening, symbolized its mission to awaken the people of Telangana to a renewed sense of pride and unity. Kavitha’s vision was to bring together the women and youth of Telangana, fostering a deep sense of pride in their cultural heritage.

Telangana Jagruthi played a pivotal role in galvanizing support from women, youth, and various segments of society, acting as a catalyst in the peaceful and nonviolent struggle for Telangana statehood. Through its efforts, the organization became a powerful force, mobilizing widespread support and contributing significantly to the movement’s success.
