Director Shankar is going to remake 'Anniyan' (2005) in Hindi with Ranveer Singh playing the lead role. Producer Dr Jayanthilal Gada made an announcement to this effect yesterday.
The news is that, today, Aascar Films's Ravichandran, the producer of 'Anniyan', has sent a notice to Shankar. In his notice, the producer said that he is the sole owner of the rights of the story of the film. Therefore, the Hindi remake cannot go ahead without his permission.
In the strongly-worded notice, Ravichandran pointed out that the story of 'Anniyan' was bought from one Sujatha by the producer. So, he is the sole owner of the story. Remaking or copying 'Anniyan' (which was dubbed into Telugu as 'Aparichitudu') is illegal.
In the notice, the producer says that, after the failure of his movie 'Boys', Shankar's career was stressed. "I gave you the opportunity to direct 'Anniyan'. You have conveniently forgotten my support," Ravichandran says to Shankar.
Earlier this month, Shankar was in the news over 'Indian 2'. Lyca Productions went for an appeal to stop the celebrated director from directing any new movie without completing their 'Indian 2', which stars Kamal Haasan in the lead.
