Selena Gomez stirred up some online buzz in June when she unexpectedly unfollowed several celebrities on Instagram, including Zayn Malik, whom she had been linked to in the spring, and his ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid, along with Bella Hadid, Zendaya, and Dua Lipa.
In a recent interview with Fast Company, Gomez addressed the unfollowing incident and clarified that it wasn't intentional. In fact, Gomez has since re-followed Lipa and Zendaya, and she continues to follow them.
Regarding Dua Lipa, Gomez explained, “It was an accident! I was just cleaning up some of my Instagram. Then somebody called me and was like, ‘What happened with Dua?!’”
To publicly reaffirm their friendship, Gomez even donned a dress from Versace and Dua Lipa’s collaboration at a Rare Beauty event. She posted a picture of herself in the outfit on Instagram with the caption, “A little Versace/Dua moment 🦋.” Lipa responded with enthusiasm, commenting, “angeeeeeeeel!!!! 😍😍😍😍.”
During her interview with Fast Company, Gomez also touched on her upcoming album and how heartbreak influenced her decision to take a break from Instagram in 2018.
In terms of her new music, Gomez mentioned that fans can expect more upbeat tunes. She acknowledged her talent for creating sad-girl music but noted that she needed personal experiences to write those songs. She emphasized that her forthcoming album will be devoid of sad tracks and highlighted her commitment to honesty with her fans, even when she faces challenging days or takes social media breaks.
