'Mahanati', the critically-acclaimed Savitri biopic, has bagged the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) Equality in Cinema award. After its blockbuster run in May, this is the first major award that the film has received.
Director Nag Ashwin, talented diva Keerthy Suresh, producers Swapna Dutt and Priyanka Dutt were present at the IFFM award ceremony on Sunday to receive the award.
Speaking on the occasion, Swapna Dutt said, “It’s an honour to be here and win an award for such an outstanding film. Not just in domestic market, ‘Mahanati’ performed really well in the overseas as well. The box office numbers say so and we are super proud of the product we made.”
The film is easily one of the most technically superior products to have come out from Tollywood. In an interactive session on the sidelines of the awards function, the film's team spoke extensively on the biopic's several aspects.
Actress Keerthy Suresh who essayed the titular role of Savitri in ‘Mahanati’ was also nominated in the Best Actress category.
