The year 2018 has been a mixed bag for Tamil cinema so far as only a few films such as 'Thaana Serndha Koottam', 'Kalakalappu 2', 'Tik Tik Tik', 'Irumbu Thirai', 'Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuthu', 'Kadaikutty Singam', 'Thamizh Padam 2' , 'Pyaar Prema Kadhal' and 'Kolamavu Kokila' have been money making ventures.
The next four months are crucial as films of some of the biggest stars of Kollywood are releasing and on few occasions even clashing with each other. August end will see one more Nayanthara film 'Imaikka Nodigal' releasing on 31st. The next big festive date is September 13th, Vinayaka Chathurthi for which Sivakarthikeyan's 'Seemaraja' and Samatha's 'U-Turn' has already been announced. Now the buzz is that the Vijay Sethupathi-Trisha starrer '96' is also eyeing the same date.

On Diwali day the 6th its going to be a head on clash between Thalapathy Vijay's 'Sarkar' directed by Atlee and Suriya's 'NGK' directed by Selvaraghavan. Three weeks later on the 29th it is Superstar Rajinikanth's '2.0' directed by Shankar which is also set to rule the national and international box office with the presence of Akshay Kumar as the antagonist.
Trade analysts are of the opinion that the entire December month and the remaining weekends in between are going to be much in demand as other films would be vying with each other go grab dates. The films that are on the waiting list are Jiiva's 'Kee', Jayam Ravi's 'Adanga Maru', GVP's 'Sarvam Thaala Mayam', Dhanush's 'Maari 2', Vijay Sethupathi's 'Seethakathi' and Mammooty-Ram's 'Peranbu' among others.
