The shocking incident of Tamil film director Balakrishnan murdering his wife and cutting her body into pieces and throwing them into different places has sent Chennai into a shock mode. The murderer who has made a film 'Kadhal Ilavasam' that released in 2015 has been arrested and has confessed to the cops as to why he did it.
Balakrishnan (52) hails from Thoothukudi and married Sandhya (34) seventeen years ago and shifted to Chennai. The 18 years difference in their ages was a major issue in their relationship and they often fought with each other. A few years back Sandhya went back to Thoothukudi taking her five-year-old daughter with her and put her in a school there. Living alone Sandhya had become friendly with some men which angered Balakrishnan who lodged a complaint in November 2018 the All Women's police station in Thoothukudi to facilitate a divorce between them. Following this Sandhya left her daughter with Balakrishnan and shifted to the Gnanam village in Kanyakumari district where she was born.
After a few days Sandhya had borrowed rupees seventy-five thousand from her mother and relatives and stating that she is going back to Thoothukudi had instead traveled to Chennai with the intention of making a career as an actress in films and televisions. Sandhya had then made some new friends who took her around to producers and directors and Balakrishnan got news that she was involved in casting couch activities to get chance.
Balakrishnan then approached Sandhya and promised her that he himself would get her a chance and convinced her to stay in his house. On Pongal day the couple reunited in their house but after a few days the wife got doubts that her husband is not genuinely interested in making her an actress and again a fight ensued. Sandhya then attempted suicide on 17th and was hospitalized and saved at the nick of time. She then tried to leave the house on the 19th and blinded by rage Balakrishnan hit her repeatedly on the head with a hammer killing her. He then left the house and returned late night and then started cutting her into pieces and threw a hand and two legs in the Pallikarnai garbage dump and the rest of the body into the Adyar lake near Jafferkhanpet. Till now the head and the torso have not been recovered.
The Chennai Commissioner has praised the Pallikarnai cops who had only one clue which was a tattoo on Sandhya's hand. They then got the list of missing women aged 30 to 40 in Tamil Nadu and tried to compare notes but to no avail. An Inspector in Thoothukudi alerted that a woman is missing in the area who was known to have her hand tattooed. It was then that the cops rushed to the South and traced Sandhya's mother who gave information about her son-in-law Balakrishnan and that is how they nabbed him.
It has been reported that initially, Balakrishnan refused to cooperate with the police and also gave a lot of contradicting information but then the cops used their own tactics to make him tell the truth and he blurted out how the crime occured. The age difference and suspicion regarding his own wife has resulted in a life lost and a small child losing her mother.
