Samantha Akkineni may just have bagged one of the most important projects of her career. ‘Choodalani Undhi’ director Gunasekhar has roped her in for ‘Shaakuntalam’, one of his dream projects. The fairy tale kind of movie will tell the love story of Shakuntala and Dushantha. It will be interesting to see who will play the latter in this multi-lingual, pan-India project.
Gunasekhar is producing the movie on his home banner. Neelima Guna is the producer. The ‘Rudrama Devi’ director has always had a literary bent of mind. That’s why he has chosen Kalidasa’s ‘Shaakuntalam’, which is critically-acclaimed and considered a literary classic. Gunasekhar was supposed to make this film after completing Rana Daggubati’s ‘Hiranyakashapa’. The pandemic has put the project on the backburner for now.
A motion poster was today released to make the “big reveal” about Samantha’ essaying the titular role. She is currently hosting ‘Sam Jam’ for an OTT platform, interviewing the likes of Allu Arjun, Vijay Deverakonda and Chiranjeevi.
