External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is the latest dignitary to make a reference to ‘RRR’. Speaking at the Raisina dialogue, the BJP leader described the SS Rajamouli directorial as India’s most popular movie in 2022.
He made the remarks in the context of speaking about the dynamics of the India-UK relations. Jaishankar suggested that Britishers colonized India till 1947 and therefore, the equations between independent India and the UK have been complex. He also said that the British were portrayed in a negative way (as can be expected) in the Ram Charan-Jr NTR epic action drama.
“The most popular film in India last year was ‘RRR’, it has to do with the British era… The fact is when you have such complex history, there would a be downside of it, there would be suspicions, unresolved problems,” the Minister has been quoted as saying.
The comments are going viral all over.
