‘RRR’ recently hogged headlines by getting nominations at the Golden Globe Awards and London Critics’ Circle Awards. Its new feather in the cap is this: The Rajamouli directorial has been shortlisted for the 94th Academy Awards in a respectable category.
The sensational dance number ‘Naatu Naatu’ has become the first Indian song to get shortlisted for the Oscars. The song will be competing with 15 other songs, including ‘Nothing is Lost’ from ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, ‘Hold My Hand’ from ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, and ‘Lift Me Up’ from ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’.
‘Chhello Show’, the Gujarati-language film alternatively called ‘The Last Show’, has also been shortlisted. The film is in the race with 14 other films in the International Feature film category.
The voting for nominations will take place during January 12-17, and the final nominees will be announced on January 24. The 94th Academy Awards are slated to be held on 12 March 2023 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
