Tim Paine, who started a verbal banter with Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant, was at the receiving end today as the young Indian batsman decided to get back at Paine on the fourth day of the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
On the third day of the Test, Paine rubbed salt on Pant’s wounds when he took a jibe at him for not being selected in the ODI squad against New Zealand. Rishabh Pant got his revenge when it was Paine’s turn on strike. He started off by calling the Australian a “temporary captain” and went on to trivialize the player by stating that, “He loves to talk. That's the only thing he can do, boy. Only talking, talking.” Even though the skipper didn’t respond to his comments, Pant was taken aside by umpire Ian Gould after the end of the over and was cautioned for his remarks, apparently.
The Australian team was five wickets down before Tea, desperately in need of a solid partnership, giving India an edge.
